berita2.com (London): Mantan petenis nomor satu dunia dari Rusia, Dinara Safina, mundur dari turnamen tenis Wimbledon karena mengalami cedera punggung, demikian diumumkan panitia penyelenggara, Sabtu.

Safina, unggulan ke-20 pada turnamen grand slam yang dimulai Minggu, merasa nyeri pada punggungnya. Poisinya pada undian itu digantikan petenis dari Amerika Melanie Oudin, yang menjadi unggulan ke-33, demikian laporan Reuters.

Stephanie Dubois dari Kanada, yang kalah di babak penyisihan, akhirnya mendapatkan tempat dari 128 petenis yang ikut dalam turnamen itu.

Safina sebelumnya sudah mengalami cedera dan hal itu dialaminya lagi ketika mundur dari turnamen Australia Teruka, Januari lalu. Ia juga tidak tampil dalam turnamen Indian Wells dan Miami.

Petenis dari Spanyol, Maria Martinez Sanchez, unggulan ke-22, juga mundur Sabtu karena cedera kaki dan posisinya digantikan unggulan ke-34 Kateryna Bondarenko.
