berita2.com (Jakarta): Direktur Jenderal program bantuan pembangunan Pemerintah Australia (AusAID), Peter Baxter, berada di Indonesia untuk memperkuat kerjasama pembangunan Australia dengan Indonesia dan untuk meninjau secara langsung hasil kerja program bilateral terbesar Australia.

Tahun anggaran 2011-12 ini, Australia telah mengalokasikan A$558.1 juta untuk pengurangan dampak kemiskinan bagi 110 juta penduduk Indonesia yang hidup dibawah US$2 per hari.

Selama kunjungannya, Peter Baxter akan bertemu dengan pejabat tinggi pemerintah termasuk Menteri Negara Perencanaan Pembangunan Nasional (Bappenas), Prof. Dr Armida Alisjahbana. Ia juga akan berkunjung ke Banjarmasin, Kalimantan Selatan untuk meninjau kegiatan-kegiatan yang didukung oleh program bantuan Australia.

“Sebagai negara tetangga dan sahabat, Indonesia akan tetap menjadi salah satu program terbesar kami. Australia telah berkomitmen meningkatkan bantuan untuk Indonesia guna mempercepat pencapaian Tujuan Pembangunan Milenium,” ujar Baxter dalam siaran pers Kedutaan Besar Australia yang diterima berita2.com Selasa 2 Agustus 2011 .

“Saya menantikan kunjungan saya ke Kalimantan dan melihat langsung hasil nyata bantuan Australia di Indonesia,” ungkap Peter Baxter.

Di Kalimantan, Peter Baxter berencana untuk mengunjungi beberapa proyek pedesaan yang didukung oleh Program Nasional Permberdayaan Masyarakat (PNPM). Australia memberikan komitmen sebesar A$215 juta untuk lima tahun kepada program ini.

“Saya ingin melihat program bantuan Australia bekerja dengan masyarakat untuk menciptakan lapangan pekerjaan dan memperbaiki akses ke kesehatan, pendidikan dan infrastruktur,” ujar Baxter.

Direktur Jenderal AusAID juga berencana untuk mengunjungi rumah-rumah yang telah tersambung pipa air bersih dan saluran pembuangan limbah yang lebih baik, berkat bantuan Australia. Ini merupakan bagian dari program bantuan Australia menyediakan 77.000 sambungan air bersih dan 5.000 saluran pembuangan limbah untuk rumah tangga miskin di kawasan perkotaan Indonesia.

“Australia bangga dapat bekerja dengan Indonesia untuk membantu mencapai Tujuan Pembangunan Milenium dengan menyediakan akses ke air minum bersih dan sanitasi dasar kepada hampir separuh masyarakat pada 2015,” ujar Peter Baxter.
