berita2.com (London): Albert Gunawan, mahasiswa Universitas Gajah Mada Yogyakarta meraih First Prize pada 17th International Mathematics Competition (IMC) yang digelar American University in Bulgaria di Kota Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria, 24-30 Juli 2010.

Selain Albert, Indonesia juga berhasil mendapatkan Second Prize melalui Made Tantrawan dari UGM dan tiga Third Prize dari Lois Mutiara, Satria Stanza, Harun Immanuel, serta dua Certificate untuk Yosafat Pangalela dan Ahmad Agung.

"Kompetisi matematika terbesar ini diikuti oleh 392 mahasiswa dari 40 negara," kata Sekretaris Tiga KBRI Sofia Aditya Timoranto, dalam keterangan pers, Sabtu (31/7/2010).

Indonesia mengirimkan tujuh mahasiswa yakni Albert Gunawan dan Made Tantrawan dari UGM, Ahmad Agung Ahkam dan Yosafat Eka P. Pangalela (ITB), Harun Immanuel (Unair), Lois Mutiara (UI), Satria Stanza Pramayoga (ITS). Ketujuhnya memperoleh penghargaan.

Ketujuh mahasiswa tersebut didampingi Dr. Siti Fatimah dari UPI Bandung, Dr. Hanni Garminia dari ITB serta Iskandar, Kepala Seksi Prestasi Akademik Mahasiswa Ditjen Dikti Kemdiknas RI.

Pada 2008 di tempat yang sama, Tim IMC Indonesia meraih Third Prize (juga oleh Albert), dua Honorable Mention dan satu Certificate.

Koordinator IMC, Prof. John E. Jayne dari University College London menyampaikan penghargaannya kepada negara-negara yang berpartisipasi dalam IMC, termasuk Indonesia yang disebutkannya secara khusus. Dalam kompetisi ini, Grand First Prize diraih mahasiswa asal Polandia.

Sebelum kembali ke tanah air, seperti dilansir antaranews.com, Tim Indonesia diterima Dubes RI Immanuel Robert Inkiriwang di KBRI Sofia, dilanjutkan jamuan makan siang bersama Staf KBRI.

Dubes RI menyampaikan terima kasih dan ucapan selamat serta rasa bangga atas partisipasi dan keberhasilan Tim IMC Indonesia yang membantu upaya KBRI meningkatkan citra Indonesia melalui kompetisi tersebut.

Dubes RI menyambut baik kebijakan Pemerintah Indonesia memberikan beasiswa kepada mahasiswa/pelajar yang meraih penghargaan di berbagai kompetisi ilmu pengetahuan internasional.
